Elavon and Payacharity recognised at the Card and Payments Awards

Named as ‘Changing Lives in the Community’ category winner for facilitating cashless donations for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal

London, 25 May 2021, Elavon, a leading payments company, and Payacharity, a card processing solutions provider for charities, have been recognised as Changing Lives in the Community category winner at the 2021 Card and Payments Awards.

Elavon and Payacharity provided 1,100 cashless terminals to help The Royal British Legion collect donations for its annual Poppy Appeal, providing care and support to past and present members of the armed forces and their families. They issued terminals at cities around the UK, trained volunteers, and coordinated employee volunteering with Elavon’s banking partner, Santander UK, to maximise fundraising potential in 2019.

Since then, the use of digital payments has significantly accelerated with the pandemic. Elavon’s 2020 research with IPSOS Mori found that 68% of UK adults actively opt for contactless and card payments. The survey also found that 25-to 34-year-olds were the least likely in the UK to use cash, with just one in 20 seeking to pay using coins or notes.

Hannah Fitzsimons, President and General Manager Elavon, says: “Our work with Payacharity is crucial as digital payments have become even more prevalent amongst consumers in the wake of COVID-19. Traditional cash-based sectors, like charities, are now taking a more active role in using ‘tap to donate’ solutions in order to optimise their revenue.”

Bill Thomson, Group CEO, Payacharity, adds: “We are delighted to be recognised along with Elavon for helping philanthropic organisations change how they take payments. Our terminals offer a very practical way for charities, churches, school associations and other groups to fundraise and simplify their administration efforts.”
